Russian Chic

Chanel's Pre-Fall 2009 collection had a definite Russian influence.

Check out the review, as well as the entire collection, at style.com.
There are a lot of big head pieces, furry boots, and gold tights!

While the collection won't be in stores until next year, the nail polishes are already out. The colors are: OR DE RUSSIE (Russian gold), a deep, shimmery gold; NUIT DE RUSSIE (Russian night), a dark blue; and FEU DE RUSSIE (Russian fire), a smoky purplish-red. Nylon has pictures.

And finally, the short film that was shown before the show, Paris-Moscou, is at Chanel News.

Holiday Cheer

  • You know you can't resist Fake Karl's Christmas carols. "Chanel night, Karl night!
Fashionistas do quake at the sight" !!!
  • Hard Candy cosmetics is having a holiday sale. I thought they went out of business...?
  • Brave the cold (like the white Russians, haha) in this hat.
  • "An Internet Christmas." I laughed so hard when I read it. I heart nerd jokes!

Things to do this week!

Yeah, I'm posting a lot lately. I'm just bored and don't really feel like studying for midterms (even though I probably should... oh well, I will later).

  • Cultivate a collection of hats. Then, if you're not feeling very inspired, you can just put one on and BAM! Instant outfit!
  • Take random pictures of things. I've been taking my camera everywhere and snapping away; the photos can be interesting! I have at least 10 of my room, shot from different angles, as well as odd arrangements of shoes.
  • Read for fun! Well, maybe not this week. Or next week. But in two weeks, when we finally get out of school for the year (oh, yes)! Try something actually intelligent, not just those cheesy teen romances (however addicting they may be). I want to read Huckleberry Finn, because apparently it's much better than The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. And yes, I've actually never read it.
  • Declare your love for inanimate objects. They need to be appreciated, too!

Untitled (Maybe I don't feel like giving it a title, okay?)

I feel so unstylish, after looking at a bunch of people on Lookbook. Seriously.

Also, this girl is 14. And has her own fashion magazine! Sheesh.

Oops

My time zone was off, so if you were looking at the time that I posted things and it seemed weird, that's why.

It's fixed now, though!

Let it snow :)

I love cheesy Christmas songs. And Christmas time in general. I guess its strange, because I'm not even Christian, but I love it anyway. The holiday has become sort of an American holiday, as opposed to a Christian holiday.

Things I want this Christmas:

-New running shoes. I want to get into running, because my speed/endurance is abysmal. Plus, it's really affecting my tennis. One of my new year's resolutions will be to run more!
-This ballet DVD. I did ballet when I was little, and I really want to learn it now, but I'm not going to join some class full of five-year-olds. This is the closest to a class, and the reviews say it's supposed to be good.
-Victoria Beckham's book. I heart Victoria Beckham, and clothes, so a book by Victoria about clothes? MAJOR! (haha)

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. And since we've no place to go... let it snow, let it snow, LET IT SNOW! (please!)

Zooey

Currently obsessed with Zooey Deschanel. Her style is beyond amazing. I would wear all of those outfits.

Also, her album, She & Him Volume One, a collaboration with M. Ward, is great.

Fashion Magazine Inspiration

So I was feeling inspired (and procrastinating, lol) and I found my old fashion mags and tore out the pages that were good in them, stuck them on colorful paper and arranged it on my bedroom wall! It looks amazing, and I feel like I'm in the pages of a magazine. I couldn't bear to cut up some of my newer magazines, or my Elle UK's (the BEST magazine ever, I swear, it makes me want to move to England). I did find, however, the Vogue Italia that I bought in the Ciampino Airport in Rome, and since I can't read Italian, I can't read the articles, but the photo shoots were fabulous.

As the Italians say, ciao, bella!

Things to do this week!

  • Watch a French movie. They're honestly much better than American movies. The outfits, ohmygod, they're incredible. And everything sounds better when you're speaking French.
  • Memorize something. It doesn't matter, it could be a recipe, a song or even a novel! You'd be amazed how far your mind can stretch when you try.
  • Listen to Queen. I've had Bohemian Rhapsody stuck in my head ALL week. I've had random moments where I've wanted to burst out into song.
  • Find the perfect anti-frizz cream. Some lucky people might not have this problem, but my hair gets incredibly frizzy. I use Aveda's Be Curly collection, it smells really good and usually it works, but sometimes even Aveda can't save my hair (rain, etc.)
  • Bone up on your biology. You don't want to be that person (not going to name names here, you know who you are) who fails their quarter assessment. Luckily, I passed with high marks, but others weren't so fortunate.
  • And lastly, get some flat boots! I got some last weekend and they're so comfy/cute! I love them! Sadly, it's been warm here so I haven't gotten a chance to wear them yet. Hopefully, I will soon!

Depressing perfumes?

Why on Earth would anyone want to smell like a funeral home? Demeter's "Funeral Home" perfume is described as, "Funeral Home is a blend of classic white flowers: lilies, carnations, gladiolus, chrysanthemums with stems and leaves, with a hint of mahogany and oriental carpet. This scent actually started out to be Flower Show. Now our founding perfumer personally did NOT like most white flowers so this was a tough fragrance for him to develop, so he consulted on it with partner, Christopher Gable. When he first smelled this one, Christopher Gable exclaimed “It smells like my Grandfather’s funeral… Let’s call it Funeral Home!” So we did."

I wonder who would buy that. It's kinda creepy, when you think about it.

Things to do this week!

A little inspiration for the sure to be grueling week ahead.
This one is cold weather themed because I'm freezing!

  • Try Land O Lakes Caramel Hot Chocolate (mix). It is heaven on Earth.
  • Wear multiple pairs of socks, and say they're a fashion statement, when really you're just cold.
  • Do a hip hop fitness video! Laugh at yourself when you don't get the routine, and laugh at the clothes the people on the video are wearing. (Added bonus: laughing burns calories! You'll feel the burn!) A great one for this is Quickfix - Cardio Hip-Hop Workout
  • Wonder how guys can manage to parade around in T-shirts and shorts when its so cold. Are they even human?
  • Drool over these Alexander McQueen beauties. Is it even legal to make shoes that gorgeous?

Cardigan OBSESSION

Yeah, the title explains all. I am so totally in love with cardigans at the moment. I have one, its from Target (a mere $15!), its black with large buttons. But I am forever on the lookout for morrrre.

AE has an adorable Boyfriend Cardigan, and its on clearance.

Aeropostale has another one, and its in our school colors (black and gold, yeahhh!). The fit seems kinda strange though.

UO always has the best stuff, but overpriced=them. Well, not to some people, but I'm a girl on a budget! A MAJOR budget! xD

C'est ca. A bientot!

Imagination

Today was tacky day so I'm feeling a little funky! Everyone at school was dressed like they didn't own a mirror. It was so funny! The best was this one guy in my math class, who was wearing the tackiest outfit I have ever seen in my life. Just imagine it: Hawaiian print shorts (possibly swim trunks?), floral shirt and a plaid shirt over it. AND a bow tie to top it all off! Our math teacher was going on about the outfit for at least 15 minutes. What a great waste of class time. :D

So I've decided to create some characters. They aren't for anything very specific, but they're interesting and unique! Here we go...

Shiloh
Shiloh's a tough, rugged boy who wears combat boots and a lot of black. He hangs out with the wannabe emo kids at school, but never talks to any of them. He dislikes authority and never listens to any of the teachers. But on the inside he is a true romantic, and he writes poetry about mysterious girls that he's never met.

Peach
Peach was so outraged when she was named, she cried for three days straight. When she got old enough to care again, she renamed herself Sarah and became one of the popular girls. However, during a major party, she was dared to tell everyone her real name, and once word got out that she was named after a fruit (or a Mario character) she was thrown off the top of the social ladder. She now plays lacrosse and hits anyone she dislikes with her stick.

Bonnie
Bonnie is an interior designer in New York City. She is very well known and many celebrities have gone to her for their houses. In her free time, she enjoys designing the interiors of dream houses, like the Buckingham Palace in England and the Biltmore Estate. One day she plans to move to a developing country and design the entire village's homes.

La Mode (pronounced lah mode)

Fashion. It may seem superficial but its more than just outside appearances. Fashion changes your outlook on life and your impression on the people around you. The right outfit will make you more confident, more likable and simply a happier person. So its no mystery why the fashion industry is successful. People turn to fashion to add that extra bounce in their step, that twinkle of fun in the most boring day.

Fashion is a creative outlet. Dressing like everyone else is boring, overplayed and no fun at all! So what if everyone's sporting the latest overpriced cotton tee from Abercrombie, you'll stand out and look good while you're at it! I do own clothes from chain retailers like Aeropostale and American Eagle, but I add my own twist to them so that I'm not a clone. Individuality is a must in our society, where everyone wants to be "perfect."

While I adore fashion magazines, the models portrayed in them are not real. They are airbrushed and underweight. I'm sure these models must be fun to hang out with, but people should stop comparing themselves to them. Sure they're beautiful, but do they save lives? Do they teach children? Do they help the world in any way? The answer is no. They are entertaining, but they should not be your role models. This might sound hypocritical, because I love models and when I do sketches, they are a top choice, but I do not strive to be like them. They are nice to look at, but dangerous to emulate.

Fashion is, and will always be, a passion of mine. There might be a time in the future when people no longer need clothes, or when everyone is the same (think 1984), but fashion will remain important to me.

Thats all for now!
